Wollastonite is a naturally occurring metasilicic acid mineral with the molecular formula CaSiO3 and the structural formula Ca3[Si3O9]. It belongs to the triclinic crystal system and usually appears as needle-like or fibrous aggregates. Its color is white, sometimes with light gray or light red tones. It has a good vitreous luster, and its cleavage surface shows a pearly luster. Hardness: 4.5-5.0, coefficient of expansion: 6.5×10-6 mm/(mm·℃), melting point: 1540℃, density: 2.75-3.10g/cm ³. Wollastonite has low electrical conductivity, good insulation, and very little water solubility and oil absorption. Its solubility in neutral water is only 0.0095g/100ml.
